Biały Valley is a short forested valley in the Western Tatras, next to the southern part of Zakopane. The yellow trail follows the stream between the slopes of Krokiew and Sarnia Skała. A walk to the small waterfall and back takes about 1.5 hours.

In spring the valley turns green and the stream is fuller after the snowmelt. Along the way you will see cascades, limestone rocks and bridges. It is a good short mountain outing without planning a full-day hike.

Biały Valley – walking time and route length

  • One-way route: from the valley entrance to the waterfall.
  • One-way distance: 1.7 km. Ascent: 150 m.
  • Estimated one-way time 45 min
  • Return along the same route: about 35 minutes. Allow about 1.5 hours for the complete walk, or more with children and longer stops.
  • Trail marking: yellow. Surface: stones, uneven ground and some steps.
  • Biały Valley is generally unsuitable for walks with a stroller.
  • A Tatra National Park admission ticket costs PLN 11 per person.

The walk through the valley to the waterfall

The entrance is by Droga pod Reglami. The trail runs along the valley floor, close to the Biały Stream. The name is explained by the light-coloured limestone in the stream bed or by the white foam on the fast-flowing water.

The route also follows the nature trail named after Professor Stanisław Sokołowski, with 11 marked stops. It commemorates one of the people who helped establish protection for the Tatras and create the national park.

After about 45 minutes you reach a sharp bend, two bridges and a small waterfall. There is a bench where you can rest and have a snack. It is a good place to finish the short walk: the trail becomes steeper beyond the bridge. If you turn back here, you will reach the entrance in about 35 minutes.

Biały Valley with children – should you bring a stroller?

Children who walk independently can manage the basic section with breaks by the stream. Stones and steps make it difficult to push a stroller, including an all-terrain model. A child carrier is a better option for a small child.

The short distance does not mean a smooth path. Older visitors and people with mobility difficulties should expect uneven ground and slippery sections near the water.

  • Before setting out, check the weather and the latest Tatra National Park trail notice.

Longer hike: Biały Valley – Sarnia Skała – Strążyska Valley

Instead of returning from the waterfall, you can continue uphill on the yellow trail to Ścieżka nad Reglami. Then follow the black markings towards Czerwona Przełęcz and Sarnia Skała. The summit offers a view of the northern face of Giewont. After returning to the pass, descend to Strążyska Valley and its entrance.

For the continuation from the waterfall area through Sarnia Skała to the entrance of Strążyska Valley, allow approximately 2.5 hours of walking. This is additional time after reaching the waterfall; add breaks and any return to your accommodation or car. The route includes steeper sections and requires more effort than the walk along the valley floor.
